
Meet the Veterinarians of Pacific Animal Hospital
Dr. Edward Attix
Edward Attix received both his BS in physiology (1975) and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1980) from the University of California, Davis. He has been in practice at Pacific Animal Hospital since 1981. Dr. Attix is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
Dr. Attix is a boarded specialist and is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) specializing in canine and feline medicine. Read about Dr. Attix’s credentials.
Dr. Attix has a special interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, pain management, and both canine and feline internal medicine.
When not at the hospital, Dr. Attix enjoys reading, music, traveling, paddle boarding, and baseball. He is blessed with five children, three grandchildren, two golden retrievers, two dachshunds, and two wacky cats.
Dr. Valerie Caskey
Valerie Caskey earned a BS in animal science from the University of Maryland College Park before graduating from the University Of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. She practiced small animal medicine and surgery for 10 years in Minnesota before moving to California in 1996.
Dr. Caskey is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, and the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association.
Dr. Caskey is our Practice Administrator, and her special interests include practice management, internal medicine, feline medicine, and acupuncture.
Dr. Caskey and her husband have five children and three grandchildren. Their family pets include two golden retrievers, Bob and Betty, two dachshunds, Linus and Lucy, and two cats, Playful and Bruce. Outside of work, Dr. Caskey enjoys traveling, gardening, reading, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Amy Lockwood
Amy Lockwood was born and raised in San Diego. She attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, for her undergraduate work and was employed for 5 years at University of California, San Diego, prior to entering veterinary school. Dr. Lockwood graduated from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997.
Dr. Lockwood is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association, the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture.
She has been with Pacific Animal Hospital since 1997 and enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, including soft tissue surgery, acupuncture, and alternative medicine.
Dr. Lockwood lives in Oceanside with her daughter. She spends her time outside of work dancing, gardening, traveling, and reading.
Dr. Kathy Burnell
Kathy Burnell received a BS in animal physiology and neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, in 1997. After working in the veterinary field and with marine animals for several years, she returned to school at Colorado State University, where she received an MS in anatomy in 2002 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.
Upon graduating, Dr. Burnell returned to San Diego, where she completed a 1-year internship in emergency veterinary medicine. She joined Pacific Animal Hospital in 2008. Dr. Burnell has special interests in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and critical care.
Dr. Burnell is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, and the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association.
When she’s not at work, Dr. Burnell enjoys the outdoors, music, and travel. She has two playful cats that keep her on her toes.
Dr. Laura Halsey
Laura Halsey is a local San Diegan, who earned a BS in biology at San Diego State University before attending the University of California, Davis to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Halsey returned to San Diego to complete a 1-year internship in emergency veterinary medicine. She joined Pacific Animal Hospital in 2011.
Dr. Halsey’s special interests include behavior, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and pain management. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management.
When not at work, Dr. Halsey enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their two Border collie mixes, or curling up at home with a good book and a pair of cats.
